LGBTQ Nation reports that New York gay rights activist Lou Rispoli is near death after being beaten by an unknown assailant. Despite all the progress we have made with GLBT rights, it is important to remember that we still have more work ahead of us. As more and more states legalize same-sex marriage, it can be easy for us to think that gay bashing is a thing of the past, but it is not. The National Coalition Anti-Violence Project’s (NCAVP) Hate Violence Against Lesbian, Gaby, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and HIV-affected Communities 2011 report identified 30 anti LGBTQH murders, which is an 11% increase from the year before and the highest rate in the annual studies history.
Sadly, violence and discrimination is still an issue and we need to acknowledge that and figure out how to stop the violence.
