So Texas, or rather (presumable) someone in Texas, started a petition on We The People to have the Lone Star state secede from the Union and so far it has gotten 25,000 signatures. It is highly, and I do mean highly, unlikely that this will happen regardless of how many signatures they get. But what if it did happen? I don’t know who started the petition, but who ever you are, have you really thought this through? Starting a new country from the ground up is no cake walk.
For example, what type of government do you plan on having? Will you have a president or prim minister? What will you do for a military? You not only need a to recruit and have capable personnel to train the cadets you also need a budget. Do you even have the ability to arm a military? I am by no means a military expert but I have a hunch that fighter jets and missiles are not cheap. You have been concerned with securing your border with Mexico for decades, but should you actually secede you will find yourself being boarded by yet another foreign country. Speaking of securing your boarders, isn’t your border currently being guarded by United States Boarder Patrol? Add that to your list. And while we are talking about budgets; what will you be doing for currency? I’m not an economist but I seem to recall a professor telling the class that it is not as simple as just printing money.
What else will Texas have to worry about should they secede from the Union? Anybody have anything to add to this list?
