The Political Social Worker
Relando Thompkins has another excellent post on his blog, Playing Oppression Olympics Gets Us Nowhere. It reminded me of when I was an MSW student and my professor for Diversity discussed how having such arguments about who was the most oppressed group only served to distract us from the real work of fighting for social justice. Instead of viewing it as a hierarchy, he told us to look at as a wheel (like on wheel of fortune). He called this the wheel of prejudice.
Thanks for sharing this with others Rachel. This is an issue that is very close to my heart and I’m honored that you’ve mentioned it again here. We all can contribute to the problem, but we can also use ourselves to be a part of the solution.
Thank you for sharing,Rachel!
